Deadline is reporting that Quentin Tarantino may soon boldly go where he has not gone before. Long a fan of the celebrated science fiction series, the filmmaker has purportedly come up with a great idea for a new Star Trek movie that he’s shared with J.J. Abrams, director/producer of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013). Deadline’s Mike Fleming, Jr. writes that Paramount plans to assemble a team of writers to tackle Tarantino’s take and, if everything works out, Tarantino may direct with Abrams producing.
Tarantino’s Trek fandom has been playing out at the New Beverly Cinema over the course of 2017. He programmed a screening of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) this past June, a double feature of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) in August, with Star Trek IV playing again on Thanksgiving.
But what would a Tarantino Trek look like? Thanks to a December 2015 Nerdist podcast, we might have a little more insight:
