The numbers are in and Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood bested even the studio’s most optimistic predictions, topping Inglourious Basterds‘ debut to become filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s highest grossing opening weekend, on its way to racking up an impressive $40.3 million dollars. The tally is particularly incredible as Tarantino’s love letter to Hollywood is a 2 hour, 41 minute R-rated epic. The film played gangbusters across the country but did especially well in its home town, with the movie’s top 6 runs in Los Angeles. The film played to packed crowds across Southern California, including completely sold-out shows at the director’s own New Beverly Cinema.
