Make Me a Star
Stars in their eyes – laughter in the aisles! Famed funnyman Stuart Erwin portrays smalltown hick and Hollywood hopeful Merton Gill in the comedic tale that was first a novel, a beloved (and periodically reprised) stage hit, and silent film. Erwin adds a wistful note to Merton’s Tinseltown dream in 1932’s Make Me a Star, including star cameos including then-current luminaries Tallulah Bankhead, Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert, and Gary Cooper. Don’t Gamble with Strangers
When Mike Sarno (Kane Richmond) out-cheats Fay Benton (Bernadene Hayes) in a crooked poker game, the two gamblers bury the hatchet and agree to become partners in crime. Posing as brother and sister, the pair finally hit the big time when Mike runs into a gambler (Phil Van Zandt) who owes him a debt and takes over his casino to square it. As the high-rollers’ dough starts pouring in, Mike eventually tires of Fay and dumps her to get his hands on a gorgeous heiress (Gloria Warren) and her cash, a double-cross that will lead to murder and a shocking surprise when the cops reveal the killer’s name.
