Director William Beaudine headed from Hollywood to the farmlands outside Calgary to helm one of his most enduring pictures. Thomas Meighan stars as a humble farmer who enters a marriage of convenience with an icy English woman (Mona Palma). Can the new couple survive the hardships of homesteading.. and each other? Because of his relentless schedule, Beaudine didn’t see the finished film until 1970, when he received a standing ovation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a month before his death at the age of 78.
