Zulu Dawn is an epic war film detailing the doomed battle of British troops against the Zulu army in 1879 at the Battle of Isandhlwana. Serving as a prequel to the 1964 film Zulu, it shows how the British, led by arrogant aristocrats and egotistic military minds, got caught up in a losing battle by invading Zululand and inviting the wrath of its 30,000 man army. The high caliber ensemble cast is led by Burt Lancaster as the right-thinking Colonel Durnsford and also features Peter O’Toole as the conceited Lord Chelmsford and Bob Hoskins as the brash C.S.M. Williams. All turn in quality performances in this action packed film, which is co-written by Cy Endfield, co-writer and director of the earlier Zulu.
