A soulful expression of the Black Experience! To mark the seventh anniversary of the 1965 riots and the Watts Summer Festival that followed, Stax Records partnered with the community to present a large scale “Black Woodstock” concert & culture celebration at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. An incredible document of the era, Wattstax features transcendent musical highlights from the event interspersed with footage of the Watts neighborhood, socio-political interviews, and side-splitting commentary by Richard Pryor. With performances by Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Luther Ingram, Johnnie Taylor, The Emotions, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Albert King, and more!
