Untamed Heiress

An old miner (George Cleveland) who has struck it rich offers a pair of rascally theatrical agents (Taylor Holmes, Chick Chandler) a $1,000 reward to help find Effie Canova, who grubstaked him years before, so he can share his good fortune. When the two agents find Effie has died and that her daughter is in an orphanage, they can’t afford the trip to adopt her, so borrow money from a gangster (Don ‘Red’ Barry), supposedly to bet on a horse. Daughter Judy (Judy Canova) proves too old to adopt, and the agents hit on the bright idea of signing her up with their agency. Meanwhile, the horse they failed to bet on wins big, and shady Barry and his henchman show up to collect their share of the winnings. The boys try to talk their way out of the jam, inviting them to return to the city with Judy. But the four men are dismayed to find a bigger white collar crook (Hugh Sanders) has had the miner declared incompetent so he can grab the old timer’s wealth for himself. More madcap complications ensue. Of course, the script provides brief breaks for Canova to warble a tune or two, before the kinks get ironed out.
