The Steel Trap

Fed up with the humdrum routine of his job as an assistant bank manager, Jim Osbourne (Joseph Cotten) realizes he could steal a million dollars over one weekend when the bank is closed and be out of the country by opening time Monday morning. He discovers Brazil has no extradition treaty with the United States, so decides that is the best place for relocation. Lying to his wife, Laurie (Teresa Wright), that he must head to Rio on an extended business trip, he wants her to come along. Everything about the heist goes without a hitch, but their journey out of the country is fraught with a number of annoying delays that threaten to derail Jim’s intricate plan. Will Laurie uncover Jim’s subterfuge? Will the bank learn of the heist before they are out of legal reach?
