The King Steps Out

Josef von Sternberg’s delightful musical comedy The King Steps Out feels firmly in the Lubitsch mold, casting opera star Grace Moore (for whom, it’s claimed, Elvis Presley named his palacial Graceland) as a European Princess set out to break up an arranged marriage her sister doesn’t want. But traveling incognito as a dressmaker, she soon catches the eye of her sister’s handsome fiance (Franchot Tone).
