Paula McFadden (Marsha Mason) is done with watching men come and go from her life… that is until Elliot Garfield (Richard Dreyfuss) shows up at her door with a receipt to her apartment! Paula begrudgingly allows Elliot to move in with her and her daughter Lucy, and the two adjust to life with their new roommate and his many eccentricities. Although Paula and Elliot clash initially, the pair begin to acknowledge they have more in common than they first realized.
