Slap Shot

A failing hockey team uses extreme methods to turn the season around in a funny and foul-mouthed comedy fave from director George Roy Hill and screenwriter Nancy Dowd. When the local steel mill announces its closure, the Charlestown Chiefs are almost certain casualties. But if player-coach Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman) can increase attendance, he believes that popularity, a championship, and added revenue could save the team by forcing a favorable sale. And when the overly aggressive Hanson Brothers skate onto the club, Reggie and his teammates will discover what audiences really want to see: blood, violence, and bench-clearing brawls.
