The best known of all “drug scare” films, Reefer Madness was originally financed by a church group as a cautionary morality tale titled Tell Your Children. Soon after the initial release it was acquired by notorious B-movie producer Dwain Esper and retitled for the exploitation market, and then revived again in the early 1970s when its ridiculously over-the-top depictions of the dangers of marijuana use made it a cult hit on the midnight movie and college circuit.
