“Words of Wisdom” from hippies of all shapes, colors and sizes, some of it goofy, some of it lunatic and some of it profound, plus extended footage of surfing as cosmic interaction with the universe, punctuate two thirds of this bizarre excursion into the fledgling days of New Age-iness at a free concert on the island of Maui in Hawaii, located at a remote occult spiritual center. We also get to see “Dolly Dagger” herself (Pat Hartley) travel from California to the hard-to-get-to Hawaiian location, in search of Jimi Hendrix and enlightenment. The film concludes with a twenty minute interlude of Hendrix performing his always bewitching music. This is Hendrix’s next-to-last concert before his untimely death, and the last live footage of him. AllMusic critic Bruce Eder wrote, “Hendrix plays some superb music in the concert sequence that concludes this documentary – the rest is all devoted to pre-New-Age mumbo-jumbo at a Hawaiian retreat”
