When Ben’s wife Beatrice (Pearl Bailey) runs off to Mexico with his brother, things go from bad to worse for Ben (Red Foxx) when he takes a trip to Los Angeles to seek solace with their son Norman (Michael Warren), only to discover that Norman is gay and living with his flamboyant lover and roommate Garson (Dennis Dugan). “Fabulous!” Ben tries his own version of “Conversion Therapy” by hiring a prostitute for Norman that causes a falling out between father and son, leaving Ben alone in the apartment with Garson. It’s hard not to like Garson and even harder not to like the comedy Norman… Is That You? Red Foxx was an actor who could always illicit laughs with his disdain for a situation, and although the George Schlatter-directed comedy is certainly of a time when Hollywood tended to handle homosexuality rather clumsily, Norman… has its heart and funny bone in the right places.
