Writer-director Allison Anders uses her experience of living in Echo Park and observing its vibrant community & culture to craft a rich, emotionally honest tale about the personal, social and spiritual ties of gang life, told through the eyes of two best friends from childhood – Mousie and Sad Girl – as they navigate the comedic, dramatic, and sometimes violent ups-and-downs of the human condition, all while trying to stick together through betrayal, heartbreak, and tragedy.
