A group of incoming college freshmen – a track star (Omar Epps), a sweet but naïve young woman (Kristy Swanson) and an awkward outcast (Michael Rapaport) – get a crash course in higher education in writer-director-producer John Singleton’s powerful look at identity & diversity on campus. But newfound independence brings new problems, especially as racial tensions threaten to shatter the divided school. The large ensemble shines, including stellar supporting turns by Ice Cube, Jennifer Connelly, and Laurence Fishburne.
