Goin’ to Town

In her first western, Mae West shines as Cleo Borden, a saloon girl turned devilish debutante. Bride-to-be Cleo suddenly becomes the benefactor of her fiance’s ranch and oil business when he is killed in a shootout. Now a rich woman, she sets out to oversee the ranch and is met with disdain by blue-blooded British oil expert Edward Carington (Paul Cavanagh). Sensing a challenge, Cleo takes a crash course in culture to get his attention. Her first test comes when she follows Carington to Buenos Aires, where she successfully hobnobs with society’s elite in the glamorous world of horseracing. The toast of all men (except the one she’s after), Cleo arranges to marry affluent Fletcher Colton (Monroe Owlsley). But her assets are at risk when she discovers Colton’s taste for gambling, leading to an unexpected ending in this exciting story of wealth and the wicked. (Universal)
