Dolemite is his name! And fucking up motherfuckers is his game! Rudy Ray Moore developed the alter ego of Dolemite on his early comedy records and used the profits to produce an independent film about his jive-talking, ass-kicking pimp persona. Wrongly imprisoned for twenty years, Dolemite comes out the joint hot to defend his matron Queen Bee’s entertainment nightclub (with the help of her kung-fu fighting showgirls) from his nefarious rival Willie Green, who put him away all those years ago. The film was a surprising success upon release, launching two sequels and a Netflix tribute film, as well as being hailed by The New York Times as “the Citizen Kane of Blaxploitation films.”
