Daisy Miller

She did as she pleased. Peter Bogdanovich directs an adaptation of the Henry James novella, casting his then-girlfriend Cybill Shepherd as the title character in a lushly designed, carefully balanced comedy of manners. An American expatriate at a Swiss spa becomes enchanted by the beautiful & flirtatious Daisy Miller, but her behavior & reputation could prove complicated for his upper class social circle.

“Peter Bogdanovich’s 1974 adaptation of Henry James’s 1878 novella is one of the few great films based on a great book; its acerbic humor matches the tale’s stifled horror of stifling morals.” – Richard Brody, The New Yorker
