Brought together by his daughter Monica and her boyfriend Harry, Sir Christopher Strong (Colin Clive), a member of parliament, is introduced to Lady Cynthia Darrington (Katharine Hepburn, in her second screen role), a gutsy pilot, and the two become fast friends. As Cynthia becomes more invested in his and Monica’s lives, Christopher realizes his love for her, complicated by the fact of his marriage to Lady Elaine. Knowing their love is forbidden, Cynthia risks it all to explore the heights of her desire. “Higher and higher! Faster and faster! She gave herself to the great god Speed, and tried to run away from the fires within her!”

“Katharine Hepburn, so far as this reviewer’s opinion runs, is the next big star of pictures. She is distinctive in that no other person on the screen is like her. Dorothy Arzner has done a wonderful job with the direction.” – The Hollywood Reporter
