An amateur theatre troupe is unwillingly coerced by their abusive director (played by screenwriter Alan Ormsby) to accompany him to a remote island off the Florida coast to conduct an occult ceremony to raise the dead. Much Porky’s-style comedy precedes the midnight ritual, which seemingly doesn’t work – at first. Forced to stay overnight in a ramshackle cabin, the performers are understandably alarmed when beset by a real onslaught of the decaying, homicidal undead before the sun rises. A great switchover occurs mid-film from soon-to-be de rigeur sick comic relief to gory, downbeat splatterfest, giving the world its first hints of director Bob Clark’s immense talent. Co-starring Valerie Mamches, Jeff Gillen, Paul Cronin, Jane Daly. Legendary grindhouse filmmaker Ted V. Mikels was one of the executive producers.
