Arlo Guthrie stars as himself in a film based on the hit title track from his 1967 debut album. Director and co-writer Arthur Penn dramatizes the mostly true events covered in the song, at times featuring the actual persons involved, and fleshes them out with fictional events in this key ’60s film featuring Pat Quinn, James Broderick, Michael McClanathan and Geoff Outlaw, plus appearances by folk musicians Pet Seeger and Lee Hays.
