Star Trek Names A Screenwriter

For everything, there is a first time. And following the recent news that Quentin Tarantino has come up with an idea for a new Star Trek movie, which he may also direct, Paramount Pictures has announced that several scribes were convened this month for a writer’s room and celebrated The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith has now been officially selected to pen the script. In addition to Alejandro G. Iñárritu Oscar-winning survival adventure, Smith wrote the horror thriller Vacancy (2007, dir. Nimród Antal), starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson, and the fun young adult 3D horror fantasy The Hole (2009, dir. Joe Dante). On the horizon, Smith scripted the much-anticipated WWII thriller Overlord (2018, dir. Julius Avery), which is slated to be released by Paramount in 2018, and was produced by J.J. Abrams, director/producer of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013).
