David Fincher’s masterpiece of sustained tension deftly shows there’s more than one way to lose your life to a killer. Based on Robert Graysmith’s true crime tome, Zodiac follows a team of police investigators and newspaper reporters as they doggedly chase leads and slowly put together the pieces of the notorious mystery as their yearslong search pushes past the point of personal obsession. A large ensemble cast shines with Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. providing career-best performances.

“David Fincher’s grim but mesmerizing Zodiac offers the puzzle-solving addictiveness of a detective story, the shivers of a thriller and the allure of a character study, all presented with a dash of newspaper drama.” – Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times

Zodiac is the All the President’s Men of serial killer movies, with Woodward and Bernstein played by a cop and a cartoonist. It’s not merely “based” on California’s infamous Zodiac killings, but seems to exude the very stench and provocation of the case.” – Roger Ebert
