To mark the seventh anniversary of the 1965 riots and the Watts Summer Festival that followed, Stax Records partnered with the community to present a large scale “Black Woodstock” concert & culture celebration at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The greatest musical festival that you have never seen! In 1974, Hugh Masekela and famed record producer Stewart Levine assembled some of the most electrifying African and African-American acts for the Zaire 74 three-day music festival in Kinshasha to accompany the Rumble in the Jungle boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. The bout was delayed but the festival carried on. The acclaimed documentary Soul Power covers the live entertainment highlights, as well as extensive behind-the-scenes footage of the performers, promoters, and organizers.
