Bad Santa

Terry Zwigoff’s pitch black, foul-mouthed holiday comedy is the demented director’s raucously uproarious answer to decades of saccharinely sweet Christmas cinema. When a depressed, alcoholic safe-cracker (Billy Bob Thornton) poses as a miserable department store Santa in order to loot the shop with his Little Helper (Tony Cox), his scam gets derailed by the mall’s suspicious manager (John Ritter) and its chief of security (Bernie Mac), and his newfound relations with a woman (Lauren Graham) with a Santa Claus fetish and a troubled kid (Brett Kelly) who thinks he’s the real deal. Thornton is gutbustingly funny as the grouchy conman and he’s surrounded by excellent performances from the supporting cast, including Ritter in his final live action film role.

“The foulest holiday movie I’ve ever seen – and the funniest.” – Mark Caro, Chicago Tribune

“A demented, twisted, unreasonably funny work of comic kamikaze style, starring Billy Bob Thornton as Santa in a performance that’s defiantly uncouth.” – Roger Ebert

“Happens to be extremely funny – at times sidesplittingly so – thanks to Zwigoff’s way with raw irreverence and Thornton’s perfectly pitched, ready-for-anything performance.” – Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter
