The Happening (1967)

The most fantastic $3,000,000 caper that ever happened! The writing & directing team behind Cat Ballou (Frank Pierson and Elliot Silverstein, respectively) reunite for a hilarious comedy about a kidnapping turned upside down. When a bunch of beach bums (including Michael Parks) hold a retired Mafia kingpin (Anthony Quinn) ransom, they quickly learn that no one’s willing to pay up, which only enrages the Mafioso more. Now Quinn’s taking charge of his own abduction and he’s gonna teach these boys a thing or two about a life in crime in order to raise the cash that he thinks he’s worth. Featuring hip, jazzy dialog and a swinging theme song from The Supremes, plus a great cast and gorgeous Miami scenery, The Happening is a colorful counterculture comedy packed with laughs!

The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover (Larry Cohen In Person!)

Just added: writer / director Larry Cohen will join us IN PERSON, schedule permitting, to introduce his film The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover

Cult film icon Larry Cohen (God Told Me To, The Stuff) wrote, produced and directed The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover, luridly chronically over forty years in the life of the vindictive, long-running head of the FBI, from his racket-busting days during the Prohibition to his reign under eight presidents, with blackmail, retribution and homosexuality along the way. It’s a potent mix of fact and fiction told in a semi-documentary style, featuring a huge cast of recognizable faces, including Broderick Crawford as Hoover and Michael Parks as Robert F. Kennedy, plus José Ferrer, Rip Torn, Dan Dailey, Celeste Holm, Ronee Blakley, Howard Da Silva, Raymond St. Jacques and many more.
