Personally, I’m really hoping that there aren’t too many changes to the New Bev I know and love. I think a lot of the suggestions I’ve seen for improvements are a bit impractical. Sure, I’d love larger restrooms, too, but I don’t see how that could be achieved without making the lobby even smaller than it is. The seats never bothered me, personally. One of the things I love best about the New Bev is the old world feel. Coupled with the largely old programming, it’s a great place to escape the ills of the modern world for a while. I would hate to see it turn into an AMC.
I do, however, have two small suggestions. First, I’d urge a stronger crackdown on the patrons who insist on talking during the films, which seemed to be getting worse last year (especially in October, which is always a crazy month). I know you folks always take reports seriously and immediately act on them but sometimes it’s difficult to catch people in the act, so maybe routine sweeps of the theater every few minutes would be a good idea. (I noticed there was a security guard added a few months ago, which was also a welcome addition.)
Second — and this is kind of related — I’d like to see better amplification for the pre-show staff announcements and the Q&A sessions. I don’t know how many times I was in the theater trying to pay attention to a guest speaker only to hear relentless chatter around me that almost totally drowned out the guest. It is so rude and disrespectful to these great industry people who take the time to come down for these special screenings.
Otherwise, I genuinely love the theater as it is. I’m hoping it’s back open soon as I’m going through some major withdrawals!
