A Star is Born (1954)

The second of four A Star is Born adaptions, based on the 1937 film which was co-written by Dorothy Parker. This tragic love story was hailed as Judy Garland’s “comeback” (after leaving MGM); she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance opposite James Mason. Directed by Academy Award winning My Fair Lady director George Cuckor, it was the first Warner Bros. film shot in CinemaScope. We proudly present the 176 minute restored version of this timeless classic.

A Star Is Born is the perfect blend of drama and musical – of cinematic art and popular entertainment.” – Jack Moffitt, The Hollywood Reporter

“Judy Garland gives everything she has as the young star on the way up; her performance is an emotional autobiography.” – Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader

“Brilliantly visualized. No one surpasses Mr. Cukor at handling this sort of thing, and he gets performances from Miss Garland and Mr. Mason that make the heart flutter and bleed.” – Bosley Crowther, The New York Times
